Vidya Siri scholarship – Vidya Siri extension is a great opportunity for poor students in Karnataka…Good news to poor students in Karnataka, Minister for Social Welfare on Monday informed that the department of Karnataka Social Welfare would extend Vidya Siri scholarship programme to all poor students. In future Vidya Siri applies to all meritorious students and all poor sections of society, including Brahmins.
Minister Mr Anjaneya said the Vidya Siri scheme was conceived because there was a huge gap between demand and supply of boarding and lodging for students from backward classes. Vidya Siri was launched on October 1, 2013, and envisages to provide Rs. 1,500 a month for 10 months to eligible students. As many as 1,67,952 applications have been received online while the department intends to select about 20,000 students.
Vidya Siri scholarship – Some Legislators suggest government about increasing the limit the number of beneficiaries and that financial aid should not be restricted to just 10 months in a year. It should be extended for the whole of the year. Further, the income ceiling of Rs. 2.5 lakh for category 1 and Rs. 1 lakh for categories 2A, 3A and 3B were not based on any rationale. M. Kaujalgi wanted the government to extend the Vidya Siri to poor students from the Brahmin community, for which Mr Anjaneya said the government would extend the same.
