From 2019, the JEE Advanced exam may change from offline being a paper-pencil entrance exam to an online computer-based exam. The decision on JEE Advanced exam pattern not finalized yet, it will be taken when the Joint Admission Board meets in early September. It is not an impossible task because of only top 150000 students only face JEE Advanced in the present system.
On Sunday, members of the board, the highest body that takes decisions on admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), said the JEE-Advanced in 2019 could be offered as a computer-based exam. Joint Admission Board members discussed the proposal to offer the test on a computer or, at least, to keep it as an option in the first year. The new change looked as possible since candidate numbers sitting to JEE Advanced is restricted to 1.5 lakh.
This year a total of 12.82 lakh students applied to take the JEE Main exam in May 2019. Among them, only 174000 students took the computer-based test.
