What is the Purpose of APSET?
At present APSET is considered an alternative to CSIR/UGC-NET to get for appointment as lecturer in degree colleges and as an assistant professor in universities in AP. CSIR-NET is held in English medium and APSET is conducted in both Telugu and English mediums. The AP State Level Eligibility Test – APSLET is the first test in AP, but the UGC did not permit the state to conduct the SLET for 14 years for many reasons.
In 2017 AP government makes some changes in exam patrons and renamed as APSET. From 2014 UGC allowed the state to conduct the APSET to Andhra University. 8004 candidates in 24 subjects cleared the APSET held on last year.
This year APSET officials sent a proposal to the UGC for getting permission to conduct the APSET in 31 subjects. However, the UGC has decided to allow only five more subjects Communication & Journalism, Library Science, Sanskrit, Geography and Social Work, but exclude three subjects Anthropology, Linguistics and Philosophy due to the very few seats were available for study of the three subjects at Andhra Pradesh. As per stat available with the UGC, the very little number of candidates in the state is left without clearing any entrance test in these subjects.
In the next two or three days, the steering committee of APSET will meet and an announcement on the APSET 2020 Notification and online application schedule of the examination.
