What You Need to Do to get a new Ration Card
You may obtain the application form for making a new Consumer (Ration) Rice Card from any Grama Ward Sachivalaym. You will require passport-sized photographs of the head of your family attested by a gazetted officer/MLA/MP/Municipal Councillor, the specified proof(s) of residence, and the Surrender/Deletion Certificate of the previous Ration Card if there was any. Normally new rice cards are issued to all eligible families after a Govt. notification. Old Ration cards are basically of two types, White Cards and Pink Cards. White cards are issued to people with an income of less than Rs. 100000 and pink cards are issued to people with an income of more than Rs. 100000.
How to get New Rice Card in AP?
New Rice cards are issued by the Grama Sachivalayam Secretary. Master Register (Key Register) contains details of the cardholders that are assigned to a particular dealer. This register is maintained dealer-wise. This contains details about the cardholders such as Sl. No., Card No., cardholder’s name, door no., occupation, annual income, no. of family members (no. of adults, no. of children and total). It is available at Grama Sachivalaym and Grama Volunteer.
Besides the issue of new rice cards, the Grama Sachivalayam Secretary issues rice cards to families who come on transfer to the another Mandal, after verifying the surrendered certificates submitted by them. He also handles cases of a change of the ration shop due to a change of address of the cardholder and corresponding changes are carried out in the registers. Cancellation of rice cards and checking of FP shops in case of complaints against them are also looked after by the Tahsildar and Grama Sachivalayam Secretary.

The AP government have decided to issue new Rice cards to all eligible families and enrol all eligible missing cases.
- Total family income should be less than Rs 10000 per month in rural village areas and Rs 12000 per month in urban municipal areas.
- Total Agri land holding of the family should be less than 3 acres of wetland or 10 acres of dry land or 10 acres of both wet and dry land together. In urban areas family who owns no house or plot property or less than 750 ft built-up area houses.
- Monthly electricity consumption should be less than 300 units in the last six months.
- The family should not own 4 wheeler (Taxi, Auto, Tractors Exempted)
- No family member should pay income tax.
